I realized that I CAN start a fire. Success. Before R and I got it roaring we were sure to pull out the hose "just in case." But this time around, we were golden. No need for the hose except to extinguish the fire for the night.
We've decided since we have a school aged kiddo that Fridays are a day to celebrate, the end of the school week, the night to stay up late and enjoy. So this Friday we enjoyed our #1 around the fire pit after the "babies" were in bed. With the hum of baby monitors gathered around, P and I enjoyed the sound of R's excited voice as he gave us the run down of his school week, and soaked up every minute of individual attention.
Here he is roasting.
And don't think that the Mr. wasn't part of the junk-food palooza...
And while we all ate (too many) S'mores, we listened to our firstborn. It
was so special. He gave us the run down of his daily routine at school,
then he made us play school...he was the PE teacher, we were the students.
Nothing like being told to run laps around the backyard, in the dark,
post S'more binge, by a 5 year old.
As we headed in for the night, the smell of smoke on my sweatshirt made me think of family reunion camping trips...it made me miss "home" and all my extended family, in a good way. I hope that this is the start of moments my Ryk will remember, in a good way, too.
