Boys and butterflies

A few weeks ago Paul sent me this text - Ryker got bugs in the mail.

I knew they were coming.  My mom sent them.  It repulsed Paul.  The thought of having a container of catepillars was just...yuck.  But our Ryk loved them, and so we just went with it.

He learned the life cycle of a caterpillar, he got to watch it all first hand.

And after two weeks of crawly catepillars, they turned into "cack-oons" and he waited, anxiously to see the butterflies.  And when they were ready, he was so very excited to take his butterfly holder outside for the big release.
Here they are still contained, being admired by the boys
This was after Paul unzipped the top so the butterflies could fly out, notice how far away each of them are standing - all my boys afraid of tiny little butterflies.

Kiplin eventually headed over to get a closer look...

and so Ryker did too.  He was a little uneasy at first

He danced around outside watching the butterflies fly away.  This was seriously on cool learning experience for him.

but when one of the butterflies, whose wings weren't ready to fly yet, got out of the holder and made its way onto the pavement, Ryker was worried - "giant baby is going to smoosh it dead with his feet."

So I told him to pick it up and put it somewhere it couldn't be "smooshed."

so he attempted, but when the wings moved, Ryker let out a girly scream. So Paul gave him a stick for the transport.

and he left the butterfly on the rock wall

I love that he actually calls him giant baby! Too funny.
