Kindergarten

I opened his bedroom door at 6:55am, heard his sweet rhythmic breathing. The breathing pattern of a deep sleep.

He perks right up..."Morning mom, it is my first day of school today! Just give me a minute, I need to get on some socks and my lucky shirt."

He hurried downstairs to show me his yellow angry bird shirt, the lucky one. The one he's had for several months, a gift from his Nana. That is my Ryk, he has a closet of new clothes, and in typical Ryk fashion goes for comfort.

I made him take the typical cheesy, doorstep, it is my first day of school and my mom made me do this photo.

and darn it he is so cute!

On the car ride we talked about the typical morning routine he learned about on his Kindergarten orientation day - to hang up his backpack, put his lunch box on the shelf, and then go into his class and turn in his special purple folder to the teacher.

Going into the school from the car, R wanted to make sure I had a picture of his "coolest box lunch."  He got distracted mid shot, so no cute kindergarten cheesy smile on this one.

We walked the halls, his pace was more of a run in attempts to keep up with my longer gait. We had to find that darn bookstore to purchase those last minute things that only could be purchased from there. We had 3 minutes until the bell, his first of many, and I didn't want him to be late on his first day...and I wanted to have time to take a picture. We made it on time.

"By mom, see you later."

and he turns before going in and whispers "I love you!"

and even if it was a whisper, it counts.  My little boy, shinning through.

That was it.

He walked in, solo. He is a stud.

The picture...well this was what I could muster with the craptastic broken camera, and standing in the hallway.

I walked away, Ryk-less.  My neighbor G, came up next to me, her son is in the same class as Ryk.  She said it doesn't get any easier, as she was teary eyed leaving her youngest for his first day of kindergarten.

The red eyes of the parents around me in that school, made me know I wasn't alone.  This first day of school is hard, for everyone, child and parent.

Though given the smiles and reports of "I can't wait for tomorrow" I'd say the first day was a success.  I know that hard days will come though, but for now I am loving seeing my boy love school.
