Position change

I found an internal job through the corporation I work as a hospitalist NP.

I haven't been at my current job for 6 months, and that was the requirement needed to apply for internal transfer positions.

But NP jobs in our city don't pop up very often.  That paired with my current nightshift work schedule: 7days on 7 days off, and the 1 hour 15 minute one way drive each way to work was, well getting exhausting.  An unbearably, not safe to drive, can't continue this for much longer sort of exhausting.  So I had to find a new job.

I wrote, what I hoped would be a convincing plea, to go along with my transfer request.

It was denied.

I was bummed.

But the type A personality + the deep desire to be wife/mama told me to keep pursuing despite this big red DENIED stamp posted across my transfer request.

I figured out who the go to person in charge of transfers was, and contacted her via email.

The email must have been semi-convincing enough, as she told me "I'll allow the transfer request, but this by NO means guarantees a transfer"

The next day I got a phone call to set up an interview for the job I put the transfer in for.

The day later I "interviewed."  Which was more of like - a "so, you're licensed, you have the 720 hours required by the state of Mississippi to practice at facility without a physician present, so…when can you start?"

I did a jumping heel click on my way out to the parking lot.  They told me it would take about a week for the compensation department to work up my offer.

And exactly 7 days later, I got the phone call.  They offered $2 less per hour than I make, I said I was extremely interested but would appreciate if they could make this a lateral position change.  She said she'd talk to her people.

and today.  Today.  I accepted.  I'm moving to urgent care, which is really more of like a little clinic type of setting.  I'll be seeing patients age 18 months and up, diagnosing simple things, and getting paid exactly what I got paid with the hospitalist group to work.  and I am just.so.over.the.moon.excited!  I can hardly stand it.  This right her, this is why I struggled through grad school.  I honestly just landed my dream job, and I couldn't be more thrilled.

I am most excited for the perfect work-life balance.

Huge perks: no holidays.  For the first time since I started my career in healthcare I won't be working holidays.  Also, it is day shift.  I'll work an alternating schedule of 3 days on then 2 days off.  Then work two days and have 3 days off.  Repeat times infinity.  The hours are 9am-8pm Mon-Fri, 9am-6pm Sat, and 1-6pm Sun.

Also, it is just 10 minutes from my house.  10 minutes.  I've never worked a job since I've been married that was only 10 minutes away from my house.

No I just wait for the official transfer date that my old boss and new boss will have to agree on.

Step one complete in the mission to make life in Mississippi sweeter.  Coming soon…step two.

Bloom where you land!
