Rain dancing

I have great memories of dancing in the rain with my sisters.  When it would downpour we'd run up and down the street, stomping and splashing, and getting looks of craziness from cars passing by.  The best collection of rain water was alongside that space where the curb meets the street, it was the deepest and gave the biggest splash factor. We always did  our rain dancing barefoot, because rain boots just got all soggy inside. Serious splashers.  When we were all soaked and cold we'd head back inside, and steam up the bathroom from hot showers.  Laughing as we refused to acknowledge my parents 3 minute shower rule, fully enjoying the 30 minutes of warm water.

Since moving to KY I've never done this with my kids, mostly due to the fact that whenever it downpour rains, storms are factored in, so we are usually huddled in the basement hiding out from tornados. But yesterday was a perfect day of just rain. 60 degree rain. And so I took them out, and we created memories.

and several cars slowed down to watch the craziness, one neighbor even asked me if we were locked out.  Nope, just a bunch of crazy Oregonians who are stuck in Kentucky enjoying life.

We puddle jumped, stepped on rocks barefoot (ouch), stubbed a toe (Kip), stood under the rain gutter and got really soaked (Ryk), kicked around a ball, danced, and finally we played "old grandma" which is a game R came up with.  Essentially you play tag, but must run around acting like an old grandma walking with a cane.  His imagination cracks me up.

Ryker says "I remember doing this all the time way back in Oregon.  We should do this more often, mom, it is great fun."

I agreed.  Fully.
