Thanksgiving 2015

This is my first Thanksgiving in 6 years that I haven't had to work.  Such is the life of a RN turned FNP.  Not only do I get this holiday off, I managed to get this week off of work, and only had to use 7 hours of vacation time.  How you ask, well rotating schedule that fell on a holiday week.  Awesomeness.

As luck would have it, a virus crept into our house the past 3 days.  I could complain that it sucks to deal with sickness in my house, on my week off, but really I am so very thankful that I get to be home this week, taking care of them while they are sick.  Today has been a doozy of fussy kids, snot in my hair (not my snot, Hartley's), poop in the bathtub, more fussy kids, fevers (Hartley).  Also forgot to include plenty of spills: spilled juice on the floor, then Hartley falling all over today…an ear infection has her all sorts of clumsy today.  While it has been fussy and feverish, there has also been moments of awesome rolled in.

Take for instance, baking pumpkin pie.  "Homemade," the middle littles pitched in to help, well really Ryker started off with goals to help, but wouldn't stop trying to eat the ingredients so got banned.  I am positive that there is at least 1/4 cup too much sugar in this pie, and likely too much clove as well.  But with enough "woop" cream, who really cares.

Ryker got to escape for the afternoon with Paul to go to an Ole Miss basketball game.  It was "awesome, and we won."  He also had a bit of time to make a comic book on Paul's computer at work, and brought home "Adventures of Toast Man."  A comic about a piece of bread…

Anyway, I lit a candle, turned on some Norah Jones, and snuggled in a feverish baby close tonight during the meltdown 6pm hour.  I may have drank a Mikes Hard Lemonade too.  Life is good.  So, so good.  And when it isn't, you rally to make it good.

I had help with dinner: Ryk peeled the potatoes and chopped them up.  Then mashed and put in the ingredients.  Having a kid helper is awesome.  His comment after eating the dinner he helped make: "This is the best life ever."  I hope you feel the same.

Happy Thanksgiving.
